Why I am a Champion for this Cause
A Quilt Of Dreams Campaign gives people the chance to be a part of an incredible project that is happening in upstate New York. Camp Earth Connection is the only Nature Connection- based program in the area that makes it their number one priority to include kids and adults in their programs who are typically excluded from other local programs. For over 15 years Camp Earth Connection has been providing scholarships to low income youth and seeking out youth of color to join programs. This year, Sue Rausch, Camp Earth Connection founder and director, has been a tremendous support to me as I embark on creating a program, Project RISE- Resilience In Spite Of Everything, to support youth and their families who are targeted by the criminal justice system.
Mass-Incarceration is the most recent tool used to maintain inequality in this country and Project RISE is my small effort to address the impacts of mass-incarceration by providing space for children of families engaged with the criminal justice system to heal, connect, and thrive.
For our first time around, Project RISE is combining with Village Camp this summer. Village Camp historically provides wilderness based outdoor education for low-income youth and youth of color. Village Camp will host Project RISE youth and help this program get off the ground this summer.
I am trying to raise the $5,000 needed for Project RISE to be able to run at full capacity. Right now we have only recieved half of the funding we need to provide full scholarships for 30 youth.
Camp Earth Connection is an inspirational effort and deserves full investment from those within our community as well as those living elsewhere. Please join me in supporting this amazing project; lets keep it strong and lets help it grow!
